Introduction to Dental Assisting

 

Thinking of becoming a Dental Assistant?

The NSW Dental Assistants' (Professional) Association conducts an "Introduction to Dental Assisting" training course aimed at equipping those who are newly employed in the field of dental assisting and also those who are interested in entering this profession but not yet employed.

This gives you the opportunity to "experience" work in dental health care.

Most participants are encouraged by the variety and skills required and continue on to become valued and highly qualified Dental Assistants.

Dental Assistants have good communication skills, enjoy working with people and in a team. They show a caring attitude for client well being and comfort. They also have good manual dexterity co-ordination.

What will I learn?

Students will be instructed in the basics of assisting the dental operator, instrument recognition and use, preparation and mixing of dental materials, patient care and treatment and basic infection control including sterilisation of instruments and equipment, as well as occupational health and safety.

About this Course

The Introductory course covers a period of 3 weeks.
It will include five days of hands on work experience in selected surgeries.

Attendance is from 9.15am to 3.30pm daily at 116 Percival Road, Stanmore (entry in Temple St) with breaks for morning & lunch. Shops are available close-by. Students are expected to attend all sessions.

Our instructors are fully qualified trainers and accredited dental assistants with vast expertise in the field of dental health

At the conclusion of the course assistance will be given in finding permanent work placement for those successfully completing the course and not yet employed.

Dental Assisting is a highly skilled and rewarding career for those who enjoy communicating with people and have a willingness to care for client's wellbeing and comfort.

Cost

Fee for the Inroduction to Dental Assisting Course 2009 is $525.00
A deposit is required on application and the balance of fee is payable by commencement.

Requirements for Entry Students must be 17years of age or over.
Minimum English language requirement - School Certificate Level or 5.5 IELTS for international students.
International students must have current working visa

Future career options

Basic skills students may choose to continue their career by joining the nationally accredited Certificate III Course in Dental Assisting held at the same venue.

These courses are held on Wednesday afternoon 2pm - 8pm over a two semester period with breaks to coincide with school holidays.

The minimum educational requirement is the School Certificate or equivalent. Candidates should have good communication and people skills. Manual dexterity and fluency in English are essential.

Students must be employed at least part-time in a dental setting whilst attending the Certificate III course. All persons 17 years and over are welcome.
Successful trainees receive a nationally recognised accredited Certificate III in Dental Assisting.
