Hello, My name is Polly and Im based in Victoria,

I have been in contact with some of the head Ondontologists about setting up a database of dental assistants willing to give of their time and energy in times of national disaster. I'm currently targeting dental nurses that have done the "forensic course for dental assistants" run by the NSW ADA. The ondontologists I have been in contact with are supportive of this idea, where you would be emailed in times of national disaster if you wanted to volunteer your time: as in the team run by Dr. A Middleton in the recent Victorian Bushfires.

I was after some feedback from all dental nurses and also the people i should contact in regards to maybe the association giving some backing and support for this idea.

In the long run i hope to get the ADA run course happening in Victoria and for dental nurses to be able to volunteer their skills to give in times of need.
As it stands if there is a national disaster- dental nurses can contact their state forensic body.

Hi Polly,
I have recently attended the Forensic Course for DA's only last week with Dr Middleton and his colleagues at Westmead in NSW. I have to say it was a fantastic course, and gives you a real insight into what forensic Dentists and DA's do in regards to identifying bodies etc.
They did mention that the aim of the course was to get DA's trained so they can help out in times of mass disaster like the Victorian Bushfires.
Anyway, I just thought I'd let you know what I thought of it, I am only a new member, hope it's not too late!
